iPhone 20 Pro Max Rumored to Feature a Quad-Curved Display

iPhone 20 Pro Max Rumored to Feature a Quad-Curved Display

Now that the iPhone 18 Pro series is here, attention is already starting to move toward what could be Apple’s next major iPhone redesign. The model commonly referred to in leaks as the iPhone 20 is expected in 2027, which will mark 20 years since Apple introduced the original iPhone in 2007. That alone has raised expectations. Apple used the iPhone X in 2017 to mark ten years of iPhone with a major change to the design, replacing the Home button with an almost all-screen front and introducing Face ID. Twenty years later, people are hoping Apple has another big change planned rather than simply another yearly refresh.

One of the earliest and more interesting rumors is a new quad-curved display for the 20th-anniversary iPhone. Reports say Apple is testing a custom OLED panel with glass that curves subtly around all four sides, making the bezels appear to almost disappear. Curved screens themselves are nothing new. Samsung was already using curved Dynamic AMOLED displays on phones such as the Galaxy S10 years ago. The difference is that Apple’s rumored design is not expected to copy those older Android screens directly. Recent leaks describe a much more subtle curve designed around creating the appearance of one continuous piece of glass rather than dramatic curved side edges. Apple is also reportedly testing a larger display of roughly 6.96 inches for the biggest anniversary model

The bigger question is what happens to the Dynamic Island. Apple clearly has some of the technology needed to start hiding hardware behind the screen. The new iPhone Duo already places its inner FaceTime camera underneath the display, although the Duo uses Touch ID rather than Face ID. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro has moved an infrared camera used by Face ID underneath the display while keeping other components inside its smaller Dynamic Island. The dream for the iPhone 20 would be to take that another step and hide everything, including the selfie camera and Face ID hardware, leaving nothing but screen on the front. Apple is reportedly still testing exactly that, but reports disagree on whether all of the technology will be ready by 2027. A smaller Dynamic Island or a single camera hole could still be used if a completely uninterrupted display is not ready.

That also makes the upgrade decision a little more interesting for anyone buying an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max today. The iPhone 18 generation already brings meaningful improvements, but 2027 is shaping up to be the year to watch if you care most about a completely new iPhone design. A nearly bezel-free quad-curved screen, hidden cameras and an all-glass appearance would make the anniversary model feel very different from the iPhones we have today. None of those features are confirmed yet, and plans can still change before launch, but expectations are understandably high. If Apple really wants the 20th anniversary of the iPhone to feel as important as the iPhone X did ten years earlier, the so-called iPhone 20 Pro Max could end up being one of the most interesting iPhones in years.
